Biometric Gun Safes are on the cutting edge of technology, designed to keep you and your family safe. These are also known as Fingerprint Gun Safes due to the fact that you have use your Fingerprint to gain access to the contents of the safe.
This model is the Bio Vault 2.0 and is indeed the one that I purchased. As you can see this safe is not only stunning to look at but it has a range of features that made deciding to purchase this Biometric Pistol Safe a no brainer. This safe is also available on gun metal black.
As for a list of features there are many so I’ll list a few for you. Firstly it’s not too heavy which is good especially if you are storing it under your bed, the last thing you want to do is put your back out while trying to lug it out from under the bed. It weighs in at about 13 pounds (just under 6 kg).
Speed is another factor with this pistol safe, there is no searching for a key or fumbling around with tumblers to access this safe. Simply hold your finger of the biometric reader and it will open.
You can also store up to 50 fingerprints on this biometric gun safe meaning that even if you aren’t around and there is an emergency then your partner can still access the contents of the safe.
The interior of the safe is quite large as well, easily holding up to 2 pistols with room to spare. The interior is also lined with felt meaning that your guns are not going to be scratched or damaged.
You can also purchase a securtiy cable so that it can be tethered to something solid or you can also purchase a wall mount if you want turn it into a wall gun safe.
Overall this is a fantastic safe and I couldn’t be happier with it, as far as Biometric Gun Safes go this has to be one of the best around.
Gun safes are a means to secure and protect one or more firearms from use when not intended or as a means of keeping the guns out of your family members, especially kids . In many places around the world a gun safe is required by law, in addition a gun lock or metal gun cabinet would also be acceptable.
Gun safes come in a variety of shapes and sizes, thanks to the advances of technology they may come with additional features such as water or fire proof, biometric capablilities and even voice activation.
Internal locking mechanisms vary from manufactuer to manufactuer and can often be a selling point to boost their companies sales. In addition the better gun safes are tested by UL (Underwriters Laboratory), those safes that pass the UL Certification are given a Residential Security Container.
The main benefit of buying a UL certified safe means that it meets minimum security capabilites and that it will be guaranteed a minimum of 10 000 openings and closings of the safe.
While most safes only provide protection against burglary, the more up market models provide protection against fire and flooding, some even go to the extent to offer rust protection by adding a electrical heater inside the safe that keeps the tempature inside the safe above the dew point meaning that moisture doesn’t form and potentially rust the guns.
Fingerprint gun safes are more commonly known as biometric gun safes, but your probably wondering if they really work or not.
Well a biometric finger gun safe works by matching your fingerprint to the one that it has stored, if the finger prints match up then the bolt securing the safe will open up and you will have access, if however your finger print does not match you will be unable to open it.
One of the drawcards of a biometric pistol safe is that they are very convenient to access, a simple swipe of the finger and your in as opposed to fumbling with a key or trying to match numbers on a tumbler lock.
So what if something happens and fingerprint safe won’t let you in? Well luckily this rarely happens but if it does, rest assured that there will be a secondary way to access your safe, that being a key. It goes without saying that the key should be stored well away from the fingerprint pistol safe.
Often the sensitivity of the biometric scanner can be adjusted or you will end up fruitlessly swiping away with no result.
The chances of someone accessing your biometric safe is very very low, this is called the “False Accept Rate”. False Accept Rates vary from 0.0001% to 0.1% so as you can imagine they are very secure.
On the other hand if your biometric gun safe doesn’t let you in when it is supposed to, this is known as the “False Reject Rate”. The failure rate for this varies from 0.00066% to 1.0%. Obviously this rate has to be very low otherwise it will become very frustrating trying to gain access to your hand gun.
All things considered biometric gun safes are very secure due to the combination of low false acceptance rates and low reject rates.
